Monrovia, Liberia — September 2026 — BASA Development Initiatives (BDI), a youth-founded and women-led Liberian non-profit organization, has moved its national headquarters to One UN House on 1st Street, Sinkor, Monrovia.
The move makes BDI the first Liberian NGO housed in the One UN House, which hosts the United Nations system in Liberia. The new headquarters strengthens BDI's presence in Monrovia and places the organization closer to UN agencies, government institutions, development partners and other stakeholders involved in Liberia's development agenda.
Youth-Founded, Women-Led
Founded in 2021, BDI works across agriculture and agribusiness, fisheries and the environment, health and nutrition, the circular economy, entrepreneurship, and gender. The organization focuses particularly on creating opportunities for young people and women through skills development, enterprise support, coaching, mentorship and access to finance.
"Having our headquarters at One UN House provides an important opportunity to strengthen coordination and collaboration with development partners while maintaining our focus on locally led development," said Katherina M. Hopkins, Chief Executive Officer of BASA Development Initiatives.
BDI currently operates from its headquarters in Montserrado County and maintains county field offices in Sinoe, Maryland and Bong. Through these locations, the organization works with communities beyond Monrovia, including women, young people and other vulnerable groups.
BDI is also inviting development partners, funders, government agencies, foundations and donors to explore opportunities for collaboration. These include co-designing and co-funding programs in skills development, green jobs, agribusiness, fisheries, health and nutrition; sub-granting and implementation partnerships; technical partnerships and research; and internships and fellowships for young Liberian professionals.
The move to One UN House signals BDI's readiness to scale its impact and deepen partnerships at a critical moment for Liberia's development. By being physically present within the UN compound, the organization can engage more directly with agencies, share knowledge, and participate in coordinated efforts that advance the country's development priorities.
