James is a subsistence farmer in Sinoe County. His family has worked the same land for three generations. But last year, something shifted. The rains came late. And when they finally arrived, they came in torrents, washing away his topsoil and cutting his cassava yield in half. His children went to bed hungry on nights they never used to.
James's story is not unusual. It is the story of climate change landing in Liberia, where 40% of West Africa's last great rainforest is under threat from deforestation, and where communities already living on the edge are being pushed further back. Scientists warn that climate change could shrink Liberia's economy by 15% and push 1.3 million more people into poverty by 2050.
BDI is on the ground in Sinoe County and beyond, planting trees, building climate clubs in schools, promoting clean energy in rural households, and helping communities like James's transition to climate-smart farming. Our Restore-Sustain-Earn model does not just protect the environment. It protects the people who depend on it.
This year, BDI planted 5,000 trees and reached 12,000 students and residents with climate education. We need to do more. We need to go further. Your gift makes it possible.
"The forest cannot wait. Neither can James. Protect Liberia's future. Give today."
